Statistical Analysis of July Hazardous Chemicals Transport Vehicles
September 10,2024
Dangerous chemicals (also called dangerous goods, the same below) refer to chemicals that are flammable, explosive, toxic, harmful and radioactive, and are prone to cause casualties and property damage during transportation, loading and unloading, and storage and custody, and therefore require special protection. The vehicles that transport hazardous chemicals are hazardous chemical transport vehicles, which are a smaller market segment in the special vehicles of the commercial vehicle industry. Depending on the transported items, hazardous chemical transport vehicles can be divided into oil transport vehicles, chemical liquid transport vehicles and explosive goods transport vehicles. According to tonnage, they can be divided into light, medium and heavy types. According to the length of the carriage, they can be divided into 3.5-5 meters, 5-6 meters, 6-7 meters, 7-8 meters, 8-9 meters, 9-10 meters, 10-11 meters, 11-12 meters and other models.
According to the latest terminal registration information, 1,868 hazardous chemicals transport vehicles were sold in July 2024, a year-on-year increase of 5.8% (1,766 vehicles were sold in May last year), and a month-on-month increase of 26.6% from 1,476 vehicles in June this year, showing a development trend of both year-on-year and month-on-month growth.
From January to July 2024, a total of 13,388 hazardous chemicals transport vehicles were sold, a cumulative year-on-year increase of 9.7% from 12,203 vehicles from January to July last year.
The following is a brief analysis of the market characteristics of hazardous chemicals transport vehicles in July this year.
1. Both year-on-year and month-on-month growth
According to terminal registration data, 1,868 hazardous chemicals transport vehicles were sold in July 2024, a year-on-year increase of 5.8% and a month-on-month increase of 26.6%, showing a good development trend of both year-on-year and month-on-month growth.
The year-on-year and month-on-month growth is mainly due to the year-on-month increase in gas-based hazardous chemicals transportation sales in July this year, and the year-on-month increase in gas-based hazardous chemicals transportation vehicles is mainly due to the relatively "friendly" gas prices.
2. The year-on-year growth rate ranks second in the past five years, at an upper-middle level
Sales volume and year-on-year growth rate of hazardous chemicals transportation vehicles in the past five years (data source: terminal registration)
As can be seen from the above figure, from January to July 2024, a total of 13,388 hazardous chemicals transport vehicles were sold, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, which is the second largest year in terms of year-on-year sales growth in the past five years, indicating that the current market performance of hazardous chemicals transport vehicles is acceptable. It is mainly related to the current market environment. According to the survey and analysis, the main reasons are roughly as follows:
First, the current economic environment is in a recovery growth, and the demand for hazardous chemicals transport vehicles is also recovering;
Second, the number of new hazardous chemicals transport vehicles on the list in recent announcements has increased, especially the increase in new gas products, which has provided support for the growth of hazardous chemicals transport vehicles from January to July this year.
Third, the sales base of the same period last year was not too high, which laid the foundation for the year-on-year growth from January to July this year.
Feature 2, July: 8-10 ton medium truck models lead the way
Table 1, according to the terminal registration data, divided by tonnage, the sales volume and year-on-year growth of hazardous goods models in each tonnage segment in July 2024 are as follows
The above table shows that by tonnage, hazardous chemicals are divided, and the sales of various models in July 2024 and the year-on-year sales show the following characteristics:
---Light vehicles (1.8 tons-6 tons) have a total sales of 434 units, a year-on-year increase of 5.1%, outperforming the market; among light vehicles, 3-5 tons models have a sales volume of 367 units, and a year-on-year increase of 6.1%, accounting for nearly 85% of the light vehicle market. In other words, in the light hazardous chemical transport vehicle market. Blue-plate light trucks are the best-selling hazardous chemical vehicles, which are the mainstream market; while the sales of models in other tonnage segments are not much.
---Medium-sized vehicles (6-14 tons) have a total sales volume of 685 units, a year-on-year increase of 23.6%, which is the market segment with the largest increase. Among medium-sized vehicles, sales of 10-14 ton models were 530, up 32.2% year-on-year, leading the market, accounting for 77.4% of the medium-sized vehicle market, and the main model in the medium-sized vehicle market; the most eye-catching performance; --- Heavy-duty vehicles (above 14 tons) sold a total of 749 units, which is the largest market segment for hazardous chemical transport vehicles, down 6.3% year-on-year. Among heavy-duty vehicles, sales of 14-19 ton models were 309, down 6.4% year-on-year, accounting for 41.4% of the heavy-duty vehicle market, and the main model in the heavy-duty vehicle market; followed by 26-32 ton models, with sales of 305 units, accounting for 40.7%, down 4.7% year-on-year.
Overall, in July 2024, a total of 1,868 hazardous chemicals transport vehicles were sold, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, of which heavy-duty vehicles had the largest sales, followed by medium-duty vehicles, and light-duty vehicles had the least sales; medium-duty trucks led the year-on-year increase.
From the perspective of specific subdivided models by tonnage, 10-14 ton yellow-plate medium-duty hazardous chemicals transport vehicles led the entire hazardous chemicals transport vehicle market and performed most outstandingly.
Feature 3: Cumulative sales from January to July: Sichuan, Guangdong, and Shaanxi Automobile ranked in the top three
According to terminal registration data, the top 10 regions in the country for hazardous chemicals transportation sales from January to July 2024 (only regional markets with sales of more than 500 vehicles are counted)
The above figure shows the regional flow of terminal sales of hazardous chemicals from January to July 2024:
---Sichuan, Guangdong and Xinjiang ranked the top three, with cumulative sales of 1,189, 1,104 and 661 vehicles respectively. Sichuan and Guangdong are the only two provinces with sales exceeding 1,000 vehicles, with market shares of 8.88% and 8.25% respectively;
---Sales in other regions are all below 650 vehicles.
Feature 4: Gas-fired vehicles have the largest year-on-year increase in proportion and the strongest momentum; fuel-fired vehicles have the "worst" decline
Table 2, based on terminal registration data, divided by power type, sales share and year-on-year changes of hazardous chemical transport vehicles from January to July 2024:
As can be seen from the table above, among the sales of various types of power hazardous chemical transport vehicles from January to July 2024:
---A total of 7,766 fuel vehicles were sold, accounting for 58% of the total sales of hazardous chemical transport vehicles, occupying a dominant position, but the proportion decreased by 34.5 percentage points year-on-year, which is the segmented model with the largest year-on-year decrease; the decline was the worst!
---A total of 5,087 gas vehicles were sold, ranking second, accounting for 38% of the total sales of hazardous chemical transport vehicles, occupying a secondary dominant position, and the proportion increased by 32 percentage points year-on-year, which is the segmented model with the largest year-on-year increase, and the growth momentum is the strongest. According to analysis, it is mainly because the gas price has been relatively "friendly" since this year, and its operating cost is significantly superior to that of fuel vehicles;
---A total of 535 pure electric vehicles were sold, accounting for 4% of the total sales of hazardous chemical transport vehicles, ranking the smallest, and the proportion increased by 2.5 percentage points year-on-year, mainly light vehicles for urban distribution transportation.
