Cummins Accelera Hydrogen Fuel Cell Tractor Successfully Put into Operation

July 26,2024

On July 24, 2024, the Cummins China Parts Distribution Center ushered in a milestone commissioning ceremony. Following the signing of the Second Shanghai Zero Carbon Expo, under the joint efforts of Cummins China Supply Chain and Shanghai Yanghai Logistics, the tractor powered by Cummins Accelera hydrogen fuel cells was officially put into operation at the center, opening a new chapter in the green logistics of the distribution center. This distribution center in Shanghai is not only the hub for Cummins China to be responsible for global parts distribution, but also one of Cummins' four core parts distribution centers worldwide.

This fuel cell tractor, custom-developed by Cummins Accelera and Shaanxi Auto Dechuang, was delivered to Yanghai Logistics for use in logistics transportation in Shanghai, marking a solid step forward for Cummins in promoting green supply chain transformation and commercial operation of new energy vehicles.

At the commissioning ceremony, this tractor undoubtedly became the focus of the whole scene. The vehicle is equipped with the Accelera HD150 hydrogen fuel cell system and the power chain of "410kW motor + automatic transmission + drive axle", which not only achieves zero carbon emissions but also comprehensively improves the power and economy of the vehicle; the vehicle power system adopts the jointly developed dual energy source to deeply optimize the energy flow management, so that the energy flow of the vehicle is always kept in the efficient operation range, and the standard load range can reach 350km-500km.

Innovative practice of green transportation
Cummins Accelera's zero-carbon power chain technology has not only achieved breakthroughs in technological innovation, but also demonstrated far-reaching influence in commercial applications. In Shanghai, Cummins hydrogen fuel cell-powered buses and urban green garbage trucks have accumulated more than 12 million kilometers of safe driving mileage.

Xuequn Gu, Fuel Cell Business Director of Cummins New Energy Power Division, said: "The successful operation of the HD150 hydrogen fuel cell tractor confirms the huge potential and unlimited opportunities of hydrogen energy in the field of green logistics supply chain. Yanghai Logistics and Cummins have worked together to create a cleaner and more efficient logistics ecosystem through the application of innovative technologies. We will ensure operations through perfect service support, and we also look forward to working with more logistics companies to build and share green transportation capacity and fulfill our zero-carbon commitment."

Wu Guangting, general manager of Shanghai Yanghai Logistics Co., Ltd., is full of confidence in the application advantages of hydrogen fuel cell technology in heavy-duty trucks. He said: "Our cooperation with Cummins is the first step for Yanghai Logistics to launch a green transportation development strategy. We are working closely with a number of industry-leading manufacturers and supply chain companies to implement more projects. By August this year, our five hydrogen vehicles will be put into operation, gradually building a large-scale green transportation fleet to support the implementation of sustainable development scenarios for more partners."

A milestone in supply chain transformation

This commissioning ceremony is not only a demonstration of Cummins Accelera's technological innovation, but also an important milestone in Cummins' supply chain transformation. Cheng Xiangang, General Manager of Cummins Smart Supply Chain (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Director of Cummins China Supply Chain Logistics, said: "This commissioning ceremony demonstrates Cummins' direction and determination in supply chain transformation and green transportation capacity construction. We will continue to strengthen cooperation with the government, industry partners and research institutions to promote the innovation and application of hydrogen energy technology and build a green supply chain together."

Currently, supply chains in all walks of life are actively promoting ESG (environment, society and corporate governance). According to Xu Wen, director of indirect procurement of the supply chain in China, Cummins is also promoting green and low-carbon in upstream and downstream resource selection. This event is the first step in Cummins' supply chain green transformation. In the future, there will be a series of initiatives to work on processes, technology, business resources and other aspects to continuously support industry chain partners in achieving green transformation.
