China's First Road Transport Edible Oil Tank Vehicle Standard Released

On July 19, 2024, the corporate standard "Road Transport Edible Oil Tank Vehicles" was officially released, which was jointly drafted by CIMC Vehicles (Group) Co., Ltd., Wuhu CIMC Ruijiang Automobile Co., Ltd., Yangzhou CIMC Tonghua Automobile Co., Ltd., and Luoyang CIMC Lingyu Automobile Co., Ltd. This is the first standard in the field of edible oil tank equipment transportation in China, which is of great significance to improving the industry standard system, promoting the safe transportation of edible oil and food safety, and the high-quality development of the industry.
The investigation found that the transport medium of many general cargo tank trucks in China is not fixed. They transport both edible liquids such as syrup and soybean oil and chemical liquids such as coal-to-liquids, which is a serious "mixed loading" phenomenon. In addition, the brands of transport tank trucks are chaotic, the quality of materials varies, and many "non-standard, non-compliant, and unqualified" factors are superimposed, resulting in a large food safety risk in the current domestic edible oil tank transportation industry.
The release and implementation of the standard "Road Transport Edible Oil Tank Vehicles" is to solve the "pain points" of the industry, trace the source, and solve the "essential" safety problems of edible oil tanker transportation equipment from the source. The standard stipulates the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, signs and identification, factory documents, transportation and storage of road transport edible oil tanker vehicles, so that the quality of tankers "has standards to rely on and specifications to check", laying a solid foundation for the healthy development of the industry.

Article 33 of the Food Safety Law stipulates: "Containers, tools and equipment for storing, transporting and loading and unloading food should be safe, harmless, kept clean, prevent food contamination, and meet the special requirements of temperature, humidity and other requirements required to ensure food safety. In this standard, further clear requirements are made for the materials of important components: the food hygiene grade of the tank material in contact with the medium should comply with the provisions of GB 4806, among which the barrel, head, wave-breaking plate, flange and pipe fittings of the tank should be made of austenitic stainless steel. Its high corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance are more in line with food hygiene and safety requirements in terms of antibacterial, anti-pollution, heavy metal migration and other indicators compared to low-carbon steel and aluminum alloys, and will set up the first effective protective barrier to prevent oil products from being contaminated and deteriorated.
