Cummins Successfully Put 160 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Slag Trucks into Operation
July 16,2024
Aiming at the application scenario of urban slag truck transportation in Shanghai, the 31-ton hydrogen fuel cell slag truck jointly developed by Cummins Accelera and Shaanxi Automobile Dechuang Future serves the municipal engineering construction in Pudong, Fengxian, Jiading, Baoshan and other areas of Shanghai. The total mileage has exceeded 3 million kilometers, of which the highest mileage of a single vehicle exceeds 60,000 kilometers, becoming an important force in Shanghai's green urban construction and a milestone.

As the first new energy slag truck put into operation in Shanghai, it not only demonstrates the adaptability of hydrogen fuel cell technology in harsh and complex application environments, but also shows the huge potential of hydrogen energy in the implementation of energy-saving and emission reduction projects. Leaders of municipal competent departments such as Shanghai Economic and Information Commission and Shanghai Greening and Urban Appearance Bureau highly praised the commissioning of hydrogen fuel cell slag trucks, and unanimously agreed that hydrogen fuel cell technology is one of the important technical routes to promote the transformation of new energy power in the field of municipal engineering.
Zero-carbon power, "hydrogen" drives the future
The hydrogen fuel cell slag truck is equipped with Cummins Accelera HD120 high-efficiency hydrogen fuel cell system, matched with 410kW drive motor and ultra-low system energy consumption AMT automatic transmission, forming a powerful "new energy zero-carbon power chain", ensuring that the vehicle maintains excellent performance in power performance, environmental protection and energy saving, and efficient attendance under harsh working conditions.
The models launched in 2024 have upgraded to a larger 6×385L hydrogen storage system, which can meet the demand for a range of more than 450 kilometers and improve the productivity of new energy vehicles. Through continuous technological innovation and performance optimization, Cummins Accelera and Shaanxi Automobile Engineering Team have significantly improved the vehicle's lightweight, system electrical efficiency, dustproof insulation, etc., with excellent hydrogen consumption performance, effectively reducing operating costs. More than 10 operating fleets actively use hydrogen vehicles in engineering construction, greatly reducing carbon emissions and significantly improving the working environment on construction sites. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 20,000 tons within 5 years, helping the implementation of green building projects.

Intelligent networking, customized services
All 160 hydrogen fuel cell slag trucks are intelligently connected, and can achieve 7×24-hour operation guarantee through remote diagnosis, proactive service, and planned maintenance. At the same time, based on the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle control platform, vehicle performance is tracked, potential risks are evaluated and warned, and driving safety is guaranteed.
Taking into account that most of the fleet drivers are driving hydrogen-powered vehicles for the first time, the service team adopts a "one-to-one" caring butler model to help the fleet and drivers become familiar with hydrogen-powered vehicles, ensure efficient attendance, and escort the vehicle throughout its life cycle.
In order to utilize hydrogen refueling station resources more efficiently, DeChuang Future and Cummins Accelera have formed an exclusive project operation team to visualize the fleet's operating status, use big data to drive hydrogen refueling scheduling, ensure a high degree of coordination between the fleet and hydrogen refueling stations, and achieve "people rest but the vehicles do not", providing hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks with exclusive hydrogen refueling channels to ensure fleet operations.
From the launch of the first batch of hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks in June 2023 to the current operation of all 160 vehicles and the breakthrough of a total mileage of 3 million kilometers, it is inseparable from the upstream and downstream partners of the hydrogen energy industry chain to fulfill their commitment to a green, environmentally friendly and zero-carbon future. In the future, Cummins Accelera will continue to work with partners to promote the further application and development of hydrogen energy technology and contribute to the construction of a greener and smarter urban transportation system.
