Cummins and Knight Transportation Showcase the 15N Natural Gas Powertrain
October 16,2023
October 16, 2023, Recently, Knight Transportation, a leading full-service trucking company in the United States, successfully completed testing of the Cummins 15N natural gas engine in California. The results demonstrate that the 15N natural gas engine, when using ultra-low carbon fuel, delivers excellent performance while reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) and greenhouse gas emissions. The truck utilizes ultra-low carbon renewable natural gas (RNG) provided by Clean Energy as its fuel.
Dave Williams, Senior Vice President of Knight-Swift Transportation, stated, "We offer transportation solutions with different payload capacities to meet our customers' business needs. We must ensure that we can reduce our carbon footprint using reliable and efficient technology. Knight-Swift plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the KNX fleet by 50% by 2035. We highly value our collaboration with Cummins, and the achievements made with the Cummins 15N engine application using renewable natural gas technology are inspiring. We will continue to work with Cummins to promote the application of this technology to meet the diverse needs of our fleet."
The Cummins 15N natural gas engine offers power output, durability, and reliability comparable to diesel engines, meeting the performance requirements of fleet transportation while significantly reducing the carbon footprint. The 15N engine can utilize low-carbon fuels such as renewable natural gas, providing a sustainable solution for the industry to achieve its sustainability goals.
José Samperio, Vice President of Cummins' North American On-Highway Business, said, "We have over 30 years of history in collaboration with Knight Transportation, with extensive experience in testing new technologies and product applications. These trucks employ Cummins' next-generation integrated solutions, including the engine, aftertreatment system, fuel storage, transmission, axles, and digital technology, offering overall integrated performance optimization to bring more value to customers."
