BYD delivered first batch of electric tractors to Latin America

October 11,2022

October 11, 2022, Mexico, BYD has started supplying electric semitrailer tractors to Mexican transport company Marva. The Chinese manufacturer has already handed over five units of the Q3MA to Marva, which expects to receive 120 semis before the year’s end. They will form the first all-electric tractor fleet in Latin America.

BYD specifies a curb weight of 12 tons and a maximum allowable traction mass of 35 tons. The company says it developed the e-axle and relies on its LFP cells for power. Depending on the battery version, the range is between 180 and 240 kilometers. This range makes the Q3MA usable in ports, industrial parks, and short- and medium-haul transport. BYD does not specify which version Marva has chosen.

Miguel Ángel Martínez, CEO of Marva, said: “This pure electric semitrailer tractor fleet will help to reduce carbon emissions around 33,000 tons per year, creating a cleaner and more environmentally friendly transportation industry.”

According to Zou Zhou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico, the company will cooperate with Element Fleet Management and ENEL X. “Our strategic partnership with Marva is wonderful for promoting the electrification in intercity logistics and transport, and cutting environment pollution from carbon emissions,” he said.
